GHT - Week 3

We have almost completed one month of the Growth Hormone Treatment. Chris and I decided to measure him last Wednesday. Everyone seemed to think he has grown. We were all right! The GHT is working - he has grown 1 1/2 - 2 inches. We are soooo glad that the treatment is working. I knew it would, but there was always a chance that this treatment could backfire. He still hates the shot, it is not something that we all look forward to every night, and it always seems the time comes so fast to give the shot again! He is getting some good gifts though. Tonight we bought our first Backyardigans DVD. Niko loves it!! Next week, I will post all month shots - including June 4th. ~Mandy

Hi Niko Fans,

Well, the title says it all - I have been a really good boy this week. I only threw two temper tantrums this week, and they were both on Saturdays :) Mommy is really enjoying my behavior and she is glad that I am good for both grandmas and Miss Kathie. It also helps that I am a very happy boy. I have a great personality, and Mommy hopes that continues as I grow up!

I am having some sleep trouble (again). It's not a big issue, but Mommy is not sure what is going on. She puts me to bed at 8:30, I give Sophie a kiss and tell Mommy "night, night." I lay down like I am going to sleep - but five minutes later, I climb out of my crib and cry at the door. Mommy comes in a rocks me to sleep. We never had to do this! After two days, Mommy made Daddy go upstairs and rock me. Well, I fell asleep for him too - and his coming up did not phase me at all. I did the same thing the next night. Mommy notices my legs are always moving when she is rocking me. I am asleep when my legs are moving. Once Mommy is on Summer break - maybe my sleeping will be normal again. I never had a "normal" sleep pattern though :)

I am having a good time in the heat. Today, Mommy and I went to the playground. We did not stay too long, because my face was getting real red (even with sunblock on). I wasn't too happy to leave. We also cleaned out Mommy's car, well I played with water. I am loving the water again this summer. Mommy and I trimmed a few bushes. I love helping her to do that. I am such an outside boy - which is good, Mommy hopes that continues too :)

I am still talking up a storm! Mommy told Daddy that I start from the time I get up to the time I go to bed. The potty training is going to start in a couple of weeks. Mommy asks me if I want to sit on the potty and I say NO! I tell her when I peepee and poop, so at least we are getting somewhere.

I need to get some sleep. There will be a GHT update either Sunday or Monday - and we have big news :) Have a good weekend!!! Love, Niko

GHT - Week 2

The Growth Hormone Treatment is going very well. We have not missed a day yet :) They told us by two weeks, we should see a difference. I see a little difference - usually when Niko is just in his diaper. His legs and arms look longer to me. Pants are still fitting okay - there have been a few that have been donated. The shots take place from a range of 6:30pm - 7:30pm. I like the earlier time slot :) The process only takes about two minutes. Niko cries for about one minute and then he is fine. We are still not doing the "shot while they are asleep method". I refuse to do that to my child. I am really hoping that this will only be a year process. It all depends on Niko and his body :) ~Mandy

Hi Everyone,

I have been driving mommy wild with the book reading. She doesn't mind though - it is very good for my vocabulary - which has expanded. Baba and Mommy kept count of how many words I know. I know more than 80 WORDS!!! Mommy is very proud of me. She can have a conversation with me now. I have about 5 favorite books that must be read to me every day. Some have to be read three or four times a night! We really are having fun with books.

Grammy got me into drawing again, and I am enjoying it. We are sending Grandpa Tony one of my masterpieces. Mommy hopes the drawing continues.

I had a pretty good week. Mommy had to take me back to the doctor on Monday, because my fever was not going away. It turned out that I had an ear infection. I am not very good about taking my medicine. We get it all over the place. By the end of the week - I was feeling much better. We do have one problem. I am getting up so early. I got Mommy up at 4:45am on Friday and 6:00am this morning. I am not sure why I get up so early, but I do. My naps are earlier now. Mommy is doing okay with getting up that early - she is used to it.

Well, I need to get to bed - early wake up call!! Love, Niko

Growth Hormone Treatment Week 1

Hi Everyone,

We started my growth hormone treatment on Friday May 7th. Nurse Sheila came over and showed Mommy, Daddy, and Grammy how to use the shot. She was very nice. I did okay the first two shots. Starting last Sunday, I started not wanting these shots. Daddy usually gives me the shots. We were doing the shots at 7:30, but Mommy seems to think they "hype" me up before going to bed at 8. Now, I get the shots at 6:30 and it has been better. Some of the nurses suggested doing the shot while I was asleep - but Mommy is not a big fan of that method. We can tell a little that the shots are working - Mommy thinks my legs look a little longer :)

Hi Niko Fans,

Mommy, Grammy, Grampy, Aunt Donna and I went to Aurora Farms on Saturday afternoon. There are ALOT of shops at this place. I really didn't care about shopping - I wanted to see the DUCKS! I really liked watching them. I did not argue with Mommy about sitting in my stroller. We had a good time at the Duck Pond. I even fed some ducks. Mommy did force me to go into one shop. She needed a dress for a Uncle Dave's Wedding. We both felt a little pampered today! After visiting the Ducks we went out to dinner - it was yummy!!

I have had an interesting week. Mommy is going to do a separate blog about my growth hormone treatment on Sunday. We are doing very well with the shots. We won't go into too much though. I did have to visit my new doctor this week. Baba had to take me. I was a little ouchie so I wasn't too impressed with the new doctor. Mommy requested a woman doctor - but I got a male doctor instead. We are not going to change doctors again - so a male doctor it is! I do have a virus. I keep running a fever and I have fluid in my ears. If I don't get better by Monday, Mommy is going to call the doctor again. My mood is okay - but there are times during the day when I say my head / ear hurts.

My sleep has also been off. Mommy has expanded my bedtime to 8:30pm. At 8:00pm, it is still light out. I have been getting up during the night. I also climb out of my crib all the time. I spent a couple of nights on the floor. Mommy can't open the door to put me back into bed, because I am right by the door, and she will wake me up. Mommy and Daddy were talking - it is time for my Bed.

It also may be time for some potty training. I tell everyone when I have to "poop". If I just have my diaper on - I will try to take it off, and say "poop". We shall see - you know there will a lot of blogs about my potty habits ;)

Hi Everyone,

Mommy was out of town last week, so the blog was not updated. Since I can't really even type my name yet, Mommy has to help me type the blog. We are working on my name though ;) There might be some extra blogs this week to make up for Mommy's lack of blogging :)

Since the weather has been really nice, Mommy takes me outside almost everyday after school. I know she is tired, but she does anything for me! :) We still collect the mail, and then we play for a while. I usually say "chalk" and we draw for a little bit. Mommy has to draw too!

I have been a pretty good boy this week. Mommy has observed that I have not had any screaming tantrums - which means no time - outs!! I am really talking now. I can say a lot of words - almost anything I hear and I repeat! Some of Mommy's favorite words are : Please (pease), Frog, Thank you very much, Sprout (prout), Yes, Cup, Juice, Poop, Mommy, there are many more. I have also changed my TV watching at home. I really like Sprout now. Mommy thinks the shows are boring and weird - but I don't care. I also climb out of crib on a regular basis. I did it twice yesterday - during nap and when I was put back to bed at 5am after I woke up at 3:30am because I had a bad dream. I fall asleep on the floor :) Sometimes, I surprise Mommy and Daddy by walking downstairs and saying Hi! Mommy really wants to wait for summer to put me in a bed, but it might have to be sooner. Mommy is also thinking about getting me a potty. I have been giving "cues" about pooping. It will be a busy summer!!
